Mass Effect TV Series Reportedly Active Despite BioWare Closure and Game Cancellation

Amazon's Mass Effect adaptation remains in the works even after EA shuttered BioWare and canceled the upcoming game entry.

The planned Mass Effect television adaptation for Amazon's Prime Video is reportedly continuing production, despite Electronic Arts shuttering BioWare and canceling the next video game entry in the franchise. Sources indicate that key creative talent attached to the streaming series remain on board with the project.

This continuity reportedly includes BioWare executive producer and project director Mike Gamble, who was among the personnel impacted by the studio's closure. The television series, originally unveiled in 2021, previously brought on Doug Jung as showrunner and Daniel Casey as a writer to adapt the science fiction universe.

The disruption arrives in the wake of EA going private through an acquisition involving Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. The publisher subsequently launched widespread cuts to achieve $700 million in cost savings, leading directly to the termination of BioWare, the cancellation of the next Mass Effect title, and halted work on an unreleased The Sims installment.
