Epic Games Rebuilding Easy Anti-Cheat to Bring Fortnite to Linux

Epic Games is revamping Easy Anti-Cheat natively for Linux, piloting the security update through Fortnite before offering it to other studios.

Epic Games has revealed plans to introduce a native Linux release of Fortnite as part of an overhaul to Easy Anti-Cheat. The studio is developing a native rebuild of the anti-cheat system that avoids translation layers like Proton, aiming to deliver security protections on par with Windows. Historically, Epic and external developers largely avoided Linux EAC implementations due to parity and effectiveness concerns.

Fortnite will serve as the live testing environment for the revamped software, known as EAC Linux v2. Epic stated that once the updated anti-cheat measures are tested and validated in Fortnite, the technology will be distributed to other developers seeking to bring their multiplayer titles to the Linux ecosystem.

A formal release window for Fortnite on Linux has not been revealed, though Epic confirmed that the test phase will be deployed through a preview version of its new launcher. The company noted that this experimental launcher currently lacks several standard storefront features but shows slight performance gains as development continues.
