Epic Games Discloses Fortnite Pirate Token Drop Rates After Player Pushback

Epic Games has revealed exact odds for Fortnite's Treasure Hunters items, including the Pirate Token, following community complaints over loot transparency.

Epic Games has published the official item drop rates for its Treasure Hunters mini-season in Fortnite following widespread community dissatisfaction over hidden probabilities. The controversy centered around the elusive Pirate Token, an in-game pickup that unlocks the Pirate Shop and makes nearly every available cosmetic free for two weeks. Because players did not know their true chances of uncovering the token from chests, complaints surged across social media, with some users even attempting to flag the mechanic to the Federal Trade Commission.

In response, developers detailed the exact chest drop odds across standard matches and limited-time Treasure Hours events. During normal play, the probability of obtaining Pirate Shop Access sits at 1 in 137,500, while the Weekly Gold Outfit is even rarer at 1 in 1,562,500. Other reward chances include 1 in 7,813 for weekly vehicles and decals, 1 in 568 for pickaxes or back blings, 1 in 391 for jam tracks, 1 in 272 for loading screens, and 1 in 127 for gizmos.

To provide boosted opportunities, Epic announced that designated Treasure Hours temporarily increase these odds. Pirate Shop Access gains a 1.5x multiplier during these windows, while the Weekly Gold Outfit sees a 7.5x increase and weekly vehicles enjoy a 10x rate boost. The studio noted that multipliers during Treasure Hours could be adjusted higher in subsequent rotations.
