Discord to Make Messages in Large Public Servers Searchable on the Web
Discord will allow messages from select large, public Discoverable Servers to appear in web search results starting in mid-December.
Discord has announced plans to make message logs from designated public servers searchable across the web, addressing the long-standing issue of gaming guides and community discussions remaining locked inside closed chat channels. Scheduled to take effect in mid-December, web search engines will be able to index select answers and discussions hosted within participating spaces.
The upcoming system applies exclusively to designated Discoverable Servers, which are large public communities that host at least 1,000 members. Private groups, invite-only spaces, and direct messages will not be affected. To protect user identity, search snippets and indexed entries will omit member usernames and avatar images.
Both server administrators and individual community members have been provided with control options ahead of the rollout. Server owners can exclude their entire community or restrict web indexing to specific channels, while individual users can toggle an opt-out setting under their Data and Privacy preferences to prevent their personal chat logs from surfacing on web search engines.
