Valve Shares Real-World Steam Deck Performance Data With Developers

Valve is now providing game developers with telemetry showing how well their titles run on Steam Deck hardware in real-world play sessions.

Valve has introduced a new reporting feature giving game creators direct insight into how their software performs across real-world Steam Deck sessions. Starting October 1, developers gained access to player-reported frame rate metrics, allowing teams to view the distribution of frame rates experienced by users across active play time.

The telemetry relies on players willingly sharing device metrics, with Valve stating that most Steam Deck owners have opted into the program. The reported figures display session percentages across various frame rates, factoring in differences between the 60 Hz LCD units and the 90 Hz OLED models, as well as custom user-defined frame rate limits.

Currently available for titles that already hold Steam Deck Verified status, this analytical data is intended to help developers refine graphics settings, adjust specialized handheld presets, and quickly identify performance degradation after patches. Valve indicated that the initiative represents a starting point that could eventually lead to similar telemetry sets for other hardware configurations.
