Grinding Gear Games has confirmed that Path of Exile 2 will feature an additional character archetype at its full launch. During an ExileCon keynote presentation, the developer revealed that the Shadow will join the roster alongside the previously confirmed Duelist when version 1.0 arrives on December 11.

The returning Shadow class emphasizes daggers, stealth systems, and trap placement. The stealth mechanic prevents enemies from spotting players until they draw near, resets its cooldown upon scoring a kill, and leaves behind a shade that blinds targets and mirrors melee strikes. Furthermore, traps deployed while hidden remain inactive until the player is revealed, allowing for coordinated ambushes across eight distinct trap varieties.

Players choosing the Shadow will have access to the returning Assassin ascendancy as well as the newly introduced Infiltrator option, with a third ascendancy planned for a future date. The addition of the class also introduces daggers as a weapon type, accompanied by fresh skill and support gems, and a Darkness resource collected to amplify damage dealt when breaking stealth.

Announced release date: 11 Dec 2026
