Grinding Gear Games has revealed that a long-requested death recap screen is officially heading to Path of Exile 2. The feature unexpectedly surfaced during a live presentation at ExileCon when developer Mark Roberts died during a gameplay showcase, revealing a post-defeat breakdown screen to the audience. Game director Jonathan Rogers confirmed following the presentation that the tool will be ready in time for the game's full 1.0 debut on December 11.
The primary goal of the summary screen is to demystify endgame deaths by showing players incoming damage types alongside how much of that harm was successfully mitigated. Rogers explained that the recap aims to guide character build decisions, showing players whether they need to invest in more physical evasion, raw health, or specific elemental protections. However, the studio acknowledged that tracking damage over time still requires polish, as the system currently notes that periodic damage occurred without isolating its exact source.
In addition to build optimization, the development team anticipates the data will assist with balancing overtuned encounters. By pinpointing precise incoming damage and culprit monsters, players will be able to submit more accurate feedback regarding broken mechanics or bugged balance numbers. Roberts also noted that if the original Path of Exile community requests the functionality en masse, the developers plan to port the recap tool over to the first game as well.
Announced release date: 11 Dec 2026
