Lucasfilm Games Pursues More Mid-Tier and Genre-Bending Star Wars Projects

Lucasfilm Games plans to approve more diverse, AA-scale Star Wars titles from independent studios following recent genre spin-offs.

Lucasfilm Games is actively expanding its production philosophy to include more mid-tier titles from diverse developers. Speaking on the company's publishing roadmap, Lucasfilm Games vice president Douglas Reilly explained that while massive AAA experiences remain core to the brand, the team aims to utilize the franchise across various distinct genres rather than relying purely on blockbusters.

The move follows the arrival of Bit Reactor's tactical title Zero Company and Fuse Games' arcade racer Galactic Racer. Rather than confining the intellectual property to massive exclusivity deals with major publishers, Lucasfilm aims to collaborate with established independent teams capable of delivering targeted genre experiences that explore unexpected corners of the universe.

While high-profile projects like Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a third Star Wars Jedi entry, and Quantic Dream's Star Wars: Eclipse remain on the horizon, players can anticipate a broader assortment of smaller, specialized releases as Lucasfilm continues to evaluate pitches from a wider range of partners.
