Gears of War: E-Day has arrived, bringing players into the onset of the Locust invasion through a five-act prequel storyline. Set 14 years before the events of the original title, the campaign follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as they navigate the aftermath of the 79-year Pendulum Wars and the sudden subterranean emergence on the planet Sera. Alongside the iconic duo, newcomers Mags Carter and Lucas Reyes complete the newly formed Bravo Squad across an estimated 15 to 18-hour playthrough.
The campaign heavily features the industrial city of Kalona, offering dense battlegrounds, underground caverns, and Imulsion refineries. Gameplay introduces a fresh Weapon Mod and Tactical Gear framework. Operatives can scavenge yellow Hard Cases and tackle secondary city objectives to unlock four upgrade slots per firearm, granting attachments such as scopes and clip extenders. In addition, armor modifications provide cooldown-based abilities, including squad-healing Stims to support players against both classic foes and new heavy variants.
Multiplayer and cooperative offerings include two-player local split-screen, four-player online co-op, and crossplay matchmaking. The online ecosystem introduces the Horde Siege mode alongside traditional Versus combat featuring rotating objective modes like Warpath. However, custom lobbies are currently restricted, as the title launched without support for private matches.
