Square Enix and developer LANCARSE have officially released Final Fantasy Resonance for Xbox Series X|S and PC. The title marks the first time Square Enix's signature HD-2D aesthetic has been used in the flagship franchise, pairing 2D pixel sprites with dynamic 3D environments, particle effects, and cinematic camera angles. The release supports Xbox Play Anywhere, granting cross-access on both platform ecosystems at no extra charge, alongside a free demo covering the entire first chapter with progress carrying over to the full game.

The project completely reimagines the narrative of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, transforming the former mobile title into a standalone, single-player RPG without gacha mechanics or microtransactions. Players follow knights Rain and Lasswell alongside Fina as they quest to protect the world's elemental crystals from the Sworn Six. The overhauled adventure drops real-time elements in favor of traditional turn-based combat, guided by a visible action order timeline and a stagger gauge system that rewards players with extra actions when exploiting enemy vulnerabilities.

Customization centers on collecting Visions—echoes of classic franchise icons including Cloud, Terra, Zidane, and the Warrior of Light. Equipped party members gain access to their abilities, master transferable skill sets, and can unleash cinematic Resonance summon attacks during battles. Modern quality-of-life additions round out the package, including permanent tracking of discovered enemy elemental affinities, adjustable battle speeds, skippable summon animations, and external fast travel between visited zones.

Announced release date: 22 Oct 2026
