The upcoming release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 includes the extraction-focused DMZ mode, set on the Hajin map. In this mode, participants deploy into contested zones to scavenge resources, fulfill objectives, and exfiltrate while managing individual Operators assigned to dedicated Active Duty slots. Characters develop persistent value across deployments rather than functioning purely as cosmetics.
Operator progression introduces a risk-and-reward structure centered on Dog Tags and Trait Points. Surviving deployments and extracting successfully lets players invest points into Warfighter, Scout, and Survivalist skill trees, holding up to 18 total traits out of 66 available options. Should an Operator fall in combat, they enter a Missing in Action status, requiring an in-game cash payment tied to their invested traits to recover them without their equipment, or facing replacement by a fresh recruit.
The mode also incorporates an individual Prestige mechanic once an Operator maxes out their 18 Trait Points, meets cash thresholds, and carries required rare equipment. Prestiging resets points and wipes the character's backpack, granting a permanent, randomly chosen Prestige Trait. Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch globally on October 23 across platforms including PC and Xbox Series X|S, with DMZ early access beginning October 20.
Announced release date: 23 Oct 2026
