Xbox Tests Standalone Cloud Playtime Purchases for Insiders
Xbox Insiders can now buy cloud gaming hours without a Game Pass subscription, testing an ad-free streaming model ahead of a November release.
Xbox has initiated a new preview program allowing Xbox Insiders to access cloud gaming without maintaining an active Game Pass subscription. Through this system, players can purchase blocks of playtime to stream supported games directly to compatible hardware, providing an alternative to monthly memberships.
The trial offers introductory pricing bundles for participants, including 10 hours for $3.99, 25 hours for $7.99, and 50 hours for $11.99. These paid packs feature an ad-free experience, reduced queue times, and higher-quality streaming, with purchased time rolling over indefinitely until consumed.
This test operates alongside previously introduced ad-supported free streaming tiers for Insiders. Xbox indicated that general availability for the standalone cloud playtime purchase option is scheduled to roll out to wider audiences in November, though access requires owning eligible games or playing free-to-play titles.
