Xbox Cloud Gaming Previews Mobile Controller Support and Wi-Fi Cloud Connect

Microsoft is testing two new Xbox Cloud Gaming features: turning phones into controllers on Smart TVs and direct Wi-Fi input via the Xbox Nano Controller.

Microsoft has begun testing two new control options for Xbox Cloud Gaming users. The initial feature allows players accessing the service through supported Smart TVs to use an Android or iOS smartphone as a makeshift controller whenever a physical gamepad is unavailable. The virtual input interface runs straight through a mobile web browser, with certain titles offering tailored touch layouts.

The second test introduces a direct cloud connection feature specifically for the Xbox Nano Controller in the United States. Rather than pairing the gamepad to a screen via Bluetooth, this functionality links the controller directly over Wi-Fi to the remote server running the game session, aiming to minimize latency and deliver more responsive inputs.

Currently, cloud connect functionality is in an early preview stage, requiring configuration through either the Xbox beta app on Android or the Xbox Accessories PC app alongside Xbox Insider enrollment. It is compatible with web browsers and supported Smart TVs, while Microsoft gathers player feedback to refine both experimental features.
