World of Warcraft: Forever Beta Overhauls Racial Abilities and Weapon Passives
Blizzard has deployed a sweeping World of Warcraft: Forever beta patch, replacing weapon-bound bonuses with universal passives and tweaking multiple races.

Blizzard has rolled out a major beta update for World of Warcraft: Forever ahead of the testing period's conclusion on October 21. The patch brings substantial reworks to the MMO's racial abilities, stripping away weapon-specific limitations that previously tied character choices directly to particular arms. The changes aim to expand gear variety while rebalancing passives across playable races.
Under the new system, weapon-focused passives have been swapped for flat offensive benefits. Humans now receive a passive two percent critical strike chance with the Ruthless trait, replacing Sword Specialization, while Orcs gain a one percent critical strike chance through Savage rather than Axe Specialization. Dwarves lose Mace Specialization in favor of Earth Fury, which grants a two percent boost to critical damage and healing regardless of weapon choice. However, Orcs also saw nerfs, including an increased three-minute cooldown on Blood Fury and reductions to Shatter Curse's defensive benefits.
Other races received several quality-of-life and performance upgrades. Tauren gained a three percent mounted movement speed bonus on Plainsrunning alongside lower cooldowns for War Stomp and Cultivation. The newly added Skyborne race can now cast Read Leyline and Skysight while in motion, with their Wind Blessed haste passive increased to three percent. Additional adjustments across the board include a stacking movement boost for Night Elves, increased health regeneration for Trolls, and a reworked duration model for Gnomes' Eureka ability before the game launches on November 4.
Announced release date: 4 Nov 2026
