Developer S-Game has implemented a late voice cast alteration for its action title Phantom Blade Zero, bringing in veteran performer Roger Craig Smith to voice main protagonist Soul. Smith replaces Jay Maksenuk, whose vocal work had previously been featured across multiple promotional trailers for the project.
The shift reportedly occurred late in the development timeline, around the onset of the title's review cycle. S-Game has not publicly disclosed the reasoning behind substituting Maksenuk with Smith, whose past performance credits include prominent franchises such as Assassin's Creed and Sonic the Hedgehog.
Players experiencing the newly released title will encounter Smith's vocal performance rather than the audio captured in earlier previews. Alongside the voice actor change, the game achieved significant initial engagement on PC, surging past 730,000 concurrent players on Steam during its launch week.
