CD Projekt Red Details The Witcher 3 Expansion Songs of the Past

CD Projekt Red shared new details on Songs of the Past, a third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt featuring the new region of Lettin.

CD Projekt Red has revealed early details regarding Songs of the Past, an upcoming third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt scheduled to launch in 2027. Developers spoke at the Lucca Comics & Games festival about their design approach for the add-on, which introduces a brand-new region alongside fresh narrative arcs and hostile creatures.

Level design lead Miles Tost outlined the new area of Lettin, noting that while no major traversal mechanics are planned, the location carries a distinct cultural identity mixing British aristocratic notes with traditional Polish countryside architecture. The region's economy centers on a local honey-and-beer drink called Bracket, which directly influenced the local ecology. This setup introduces the Swarmion, a monster drawn to the area's honey supplies that deploys hornets for defense.

Addressing the challenge of handling decades of established franchise lore, writer Paula Meissner explained that the narrative team coordinates closely with dedicated internal lore specialists. The development philosophy focuses on expanding existing canon through logical explanations rather than retconning past events, allowing the story to explore unrevealed topics while preserving narrative continuity.
