BioWare Documentary Massive Effect Pivots to Retrospective Following Studio Closure

A documentary detailing BioWare's history was midway through production when EA shut down the developer, turning the project into a farewell tribute.

A Canadian documentary chronicling the full history of RPG developer BioWare was already deep into production prior to Electronic Arts closing the studio. Writer and director Akash Sherman had spent two years filming the project, which has now transitioned from an active historical exploration into a final farewell to the veteran team.

Titled Massive Effect: The BioWare Story, the film brings together extensive perspectives across the developer's lifespan. The documentary includes interviews with co-founders Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk, and Augustine Yip, key creative leads such as Casey Hudson, Mark Darrah, David Gaider, Drew Karpyshyn, and Mac Walters, voice actor Jennifer Hale, and former EA head John Riccitello.

Co-founders Muzyka and Zeschuk expressed gratitude for the production, noting that the studio's lasting impact relies on its community and the creative teams behind its narrative-driven games. Massive Effect: The BioWare Story is slated to debut next year.
