Wing Commander 3 Remaster Unveiled After Original FMV Tapes Found in EA Archives

Electronic Arts is developing an updated release of its classic space combat simulator titled Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger - 30th Anniversary Edition. The initiative was unveiled by EA producer Jim Vessella during a presentation at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, following his discovery of 600 original full-motion video source tapes while digitizing the publisher's video archives.

According to presentation slides shared by Video Game History Foundation board member Steve Lin, the remaster will incorporate both raw source and upscaled editions of the game's famous cinematic cutscenes. The package is also planned to feature 60 frames-per-second gameplay, modern controller support, and Kilrathi Saga integration.

The refreshed title is slated for release on PC across Steam, GOG, and the EA app. Originally released in 1994 under director Chris Roberts, the third entry in the Wing Commander saga is widely recognized for its cinematic narrative starring actors Mark Hamill and John Rhys-Davies.
