Developers aiming to launch titles on Steam are encountering significant holdups, with several creators reporting that finished builds remain unapproved well past Valve's usual timeframe. Indie teams behind projects such as Food Devils, Wheel Make It, and Cubic Earth revealed that review submissions have sat unanswered for as long as 20 days, causing missed launch windows and disrupted release momentum.

Valve acknowledged the issue in a recent Steamworks update, admitting that its evaluation schedule is running behind schedule. While the platform holder typically aims to inspect game builds within three to five business days, review queues are currently stretching up to 12 business days. Valve attributed a significant portion of the bottleneck to the necessity of repeatedly re-reviewing failed submissions.

To speed up turnarounds, Valve published a set of preparation checklists placing responsibility on developers to verify basic technical functionality before applying. The updated guidance instructs creators to test their game through Steam for at least five minutes, verify required common redistributables, ensure cloud saves and achievements function properly, and include at least five gameplay screenshots on the store listing. Valve stated that further adjustments to the review workflow will follow.
