Valve has deployed a substantial new client update for Steam, primarily targeting enhancements for Big Picture Mode. Among the headlining additions is a dedicated screensaver feature, transitioning out of its beta phase to become available for all users. By default, the screensaver showcases imagery from recently played titles alongside captured screenshots, while also allowing users to set up custom screensaver options.

Players navigating to the customization menu under settings will also find a retro-style option featuring a bouncing Steam logo reminiscent of classic DVD player idle screens. Beyond the visual additions, the update addresses core platform functionality by improving client startup times.

Furthermore, Remote Play functionality has been upgraded with an experimental video codec known as Pyrowave, engineered to enable high-bandwidth and low-latency streaming. The patch also delivers a collection of platform adjustments and bug fixes aimed at Linux users, offering broader quality-of-life benefits for players utilizing Big Picture Mode.
