Private equity group Silver Lake Partners and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund have engaged in preliminary discussions regarding a potential buyout of game development software provider Unity. Silver Lake, which currently holds an eight percent stake in the technology firm, joined forces with the sovereign wealth fund to approach Unity in recent weeks according to a report from Reuters. The prospective buyers previously weighed a valuation near $25 billion prior to Unity's newest earnings release, which brought the company's market capitalization to roughly $21.5 billion.

Following the approach, Unity has reportedly enlisted an investment bank to review its strategic paths. The discussions remain at an early stage, meaning an agreement is not guaranteed. If a purchase materializes, it would mark another massive expansion into the interactive entertainment landscape for the investor group, following their finalized $55 billion buyout of publisher Electronic Arts earlier in the year alongside Affinity Partners. That acquisition subsequently triggered sweeping reorganizations and studio shutdowns at EA.

Unity serves as a foundational pillar across modern gaming, with its real-time 3D engine and software toolset powering prominent releases such as Genshin Impact, Hollow Knight, Among Us, Subnautica, and Beat Saber. The platform is also relied upon by mobile powerhouses like Scopely and Niantic, both of which are already connected to the same ownership consortium. Beyond gaming, Unity's software suite has branched heavily into ad tech, film production, automotive design, and architecture.
