Speculation regarding the production expenses of Grand Theft Auto VI has circulated widely, with some unverified reports suggesting development costs reached as high as $1.5 billion. However, developer Rockstar Games has officially dismissed that specific figure, though it has opted not to reveal the real financial investment required to complete the project.

Despite the denial of the billion-dollar rumor, the title remains an immense production involving numerous studios and years of work. Financial returns are expected to offset expenses rapidly, bolstered by reports of over 5 million preorder copies already accounted for, alongside strong demand for a merchandise-focused collector's edition priced at $400.

Looking past the initial launch window, industry attention is also turning toward the game's future online plans. While rumors point toward a potential 2027 arrival for a new multiplayer component, Rockstar has yet to officially detail its strategy or how it will address the massive ongoing player base currently dedicated to Grand Theft Auto Online.
