When approaching the remake of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, Nintendo aimed to modernize the classic title's comfort and execution while keeping its narrative and emotional core intact. Series producer Hidemaro Fujibayashi revealed that pre-production conversations established strict boundaries concerning what elements would be preserved and what could be revised to alleviate friction for players.

Key changes in the modernized release include revamped controls and the addition of a dedicated jump input. According to Fujibayashi, the development team concluded after extensive deliberation that allowing players to jump freely throughout the environment provides greater agency and creates a much smoother experience without compromising the essence of the adventure.

Beyond mechanical alterations, the project leverages upgraded hardware capabilities to enhance visual clarity and auditory fidelity. Visual revisions allow the game to communicate more detailed visual information to players, while the soundscape features a 5.1-channel surround sound mix for background music.
