Nintendo Producers Detail Ocarina of Time Remake for Switch 2 and Zelda's 40th Anniversary

Producers Eiji Aonuma and Hidemaro Fujibayashi discuss reimagining The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch 2.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the franchise, Nintendo has revisited The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with a full remake. Series producers Eiji Aonuma and Hidemaro Fujibayashi revealed that the project began following the completion of Tears of the Kingdom, largely serving as an opportunity for younger studio staff to study and reinterpret the classic 3D adventure.

The modernized version introduces notable gameplay and presentation updates powered by the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. Players can expect fully renewed graphics, 5.1 channel surround sound for the background audio, manual camera control using a second analog stick, and expanded jumping freedom.

Fujibayashi and Aonuma emphasized that the leadership gave younger developers freedom to suggest modifications based on their own impressions of the classic game. While modern controls and presentation enhancements were embraced, the team aimed to preserve the core feeling of exploration and discovery established by the original release.
