NicoNico Nintendo Switch App Shutting Down in 2027

Dwango and Kadokawa have announced that official support for the NicoNico video application on the Nintendo Switch will conclude on March 31, 2027. The service originally debuted on the platform in July 2017, meaning the app will reach nearly a full decade of operation before being decommissioned.

Ahead of the total service shutdown, the software will be removed from the Nintendo eShop on February 28, 2027, preventing new downloads. After operations cease on March 31, Switch owners who wish to view NicoNico content on television screens will need to rely on casting solutions such as Chromecast or GoogleCast, while existing accounts and playlists will remain accessible through web browsers.

To commemorate the milestone, the companies plan a retrospective campaign for users who accessed NicoNico on the console or through other platforms during specified qualifying windows. Eligible participants will receive an achievement alongside activity summaries reviewing their interactions, such as initial comment dates and playlist additions.
