Muramasa: Revenant Blades Brings Overhauled Combat and Fixed Leveling to PC

Vanillaware is bringing Muramasa: Revenant Blades to PC with reworked combat mechanics, a brand-new skill system, and hand-restored HD visuals.

Vanillaware is preparing its first-ever PC release with Muramasa: Revenant Blades, an updated edition of the 2D action title originally launched on the Nintendo Wii. The upcoming edition overhauls the game's combat dynamics, particularly across its roster of 108 distinct weapons. Instead of locking special techniques to specific katanas, players can now unlock weapon skills through use and assign them across a trio of equipped swords, supporting combinations of ground and aerial attacks.

Combat balance and progression have also undergone major adjustments. The previous enemy scaling mechanic has been removed in favor of fixed encounter levels throughout the map, creating distinct zones of difficulty across exploration paths. To complement the broader offensive kit, higher difficulties feature increased enemy densities and bulkier health bars, while guard mechanics continue to punish excessive blocking by breaking active blades.

The PC edition introduces hand-restored high-definition artwork alongside content previously featured in the PlayStation Vita version, including multiple additional playable characters and their respective storylines. Director Wataru Nakanishi noted that while the studio currently lacks concrete plans to bring other titles to PC, strong reception could open the door for future ports.
