Meta Plans End-of-Feature Status for Quest 2 and Quest Pro in 2027

Meta has announced that the Quest 2 and Quest Pro headsets will receive their final operating system update in early 2027.

Meta has revealed its timeline to phase out feature support for both the Quest 2 and Quest Pro virtual reality headsets starting in January 2027. The upcoming Horizon OS 2.13 will serve as the final operating system release for both devices, with the rollout expected to reach all users by March 2027. Meta VR OS SDK v213 will represent the final supported development kit, while subsequent platform features and APIs will be reserved exclusively for Quest 3, Quest 3S, and upcoming hardware.

Despite entering end-of-feature status, the older headsets will not be immediately shut down. Meta plans to supply quarterly security patches and critical bug fixes through the end of 2027. Current games and applications will continue to operate normally, allowing users to buy, install, and run software. Multiplayer functionality, including cross-play with players on Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets, will remain active where supported by developers.

Developers will be allowed to submit updates for their existing software, but brand-new app submissions targeting Quest 2 and Quest Pro will close after December 2027. Creators wishing to discontinue service for these platforms must give at least 180 days of advance notice if players stand to lose access to content. Meta previously stopped selling both hardware models following the debut of the Quest 3S in late 2024.
