Dan Greenawalt, the longtime leader of Turn 10 Studios and co-creator of the Forza racing franchise, is preparing to step down from Microsoft after nearly 27 years. According to an internal memo from Playground Games' Trevor Williams, Greenawalt has decided to retire, though he will briefly remain in an advisory capacity to help oversee the transition.

The departure comes during major reorganization across Microsoft's gaming division. In September, the company revealed intentions to combine Turn 10 and Playground Games into a single development entity. That broader corporate restructuring also involves merging Obsidian into Bethesda, assigning the Halo property to Activision, and laying off an additional 268 staff members.

The transition marks another notable shift for the racing series. Turn 10 had transitioned into a support role assisting Playground on the Forza Horizon franchise following the 2023 release of the Forza Motorsport reboot, while past comments from former staff indicated earlier cutbacks had already heavily impacted the track-racing branch of the property.
