Strategy city-builder Becastled has released its latest expansion, titled Traits and Some Magic. The update focuses on disrupting repetitive playstyles by implementing a selection system of more than 40 distinct traits designed to make players adapt their tactics across different runs.
During gameplay, defenders can choose one of three traits every few days and following Blood Moon events. These perks range across Common, Uncommon, and Rare tiers, with Blood Moons increasing the odds for higher rarity choices. Rather than straightforward power increases, many traits incorporate substantial compromises; for instance, the Glass Cannon trait lowers overall unit health while boosting offensive damage, and Master of the Bow limits armies strictly to archers in exchange for dramatic damage increases.
Alongside the trait overhaul, the DLC introduces a Mage School structure that trains two new fragile battlefield units: Mages and Clerics. Mages deliver high area-of-effect damage against large enemy swarms but require protective positioning, while Clerics offer sustained healing to keep front-line combatants such as Swordsmen alive through dangerous encounters.
